This is the 5th program celebrating the work of the “backroom” folk – the audio engineers who perform wonders on the recorded work. In the first program we covered the work of Bob Ludwig who “mastered” the sound and this program covers another mastering engineer: George Marino.
What does a mastering engineer do? In the early days, they cut the acetate “master” that was used to create the stamp to press the vinyl record. However over time, the media changed from vinyl to include tape, CD’s and now streaming. Each delivery method requires the album and sound to be adjusted for the specific method.
George Marino performed most of his work for Sterling Sound and mastered well over 2,000 albums over 40 years! This is a mere smidgeon of his work…
